In answer to countless thousands of posts, (Thank you Charlie Countless and Theodore Thousands.) IN THE RING WITH STEVE, our occasional look at boxing, wrestling and mixed martial arts is now another fine freestanding Steve's Blog. Unfortunately, we must begin on a sad note.
Robert Windham, or, as he was better known, WWE Hall of Famer Blackjack Mulligan, has passed away at 73 years young. Before he wore his signature black hat and leather gloves, he wore his country's uniform as a U.S. Marine in Guam and the green and white of the J-E-T-S. If his looks didn't get you, his signature iron claw would.
He began as Big Bob Windham in the AWA before hooking up with Blackjack Lanza to form the WWE's feared tag team the Blackjacks. The 1975 WWE Tag Team Champions, they were a force to be reckoned with. Their manager, Bobby "The Brain" Heenan, inducted them in the WWE Hall of Fame in 2006,and his legacy lives on in his grandsons, Bo Dallas and Bray Wyatt.
Our sincerest condolences to Bo, Bray, Blackjack's son Barry Windham and his tag team partner and Blackjack's son-in-law Mike Rotunda.
I know I promised a look at what's up with former UFC Women's Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey, and first of all, if you want to know why it's Ronda and not Rhonda, her dad Ron named her after himself.
She IS planning a comeback, but she's not planning revenge on Holly Holm anytime soon, nor is she going to return at UFC 200. When, as, and if Artoo makes her return to the octagon, we will bring you all the deets.
That's the bell! See ya in the ring!
